Deputy Director, Hamilton-Wenham Public Library

The Deputy Director supports the Director in strategizing, organizing, and managing the library's operations, programs, collections, and services. They also oversee staff scheduling and the daily functions of the library during the Director's absence, addressing various operational matters including staff management and public relations.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee daily library staffing; create a weekly staff schedule utilizing online scheduling tools; manage coverage for absences due to illness or personal matters.
- Assist in the procurement of library materials by assessing community needs and selecting relevant resources, while also engaging in collection maintenance and evaluation efforts.
- Collaborate with the Director to design and execute new technology systems and initiatives.
- Support the Director in long-term planning, goal establishment, and policy formulation concerning library services, personnel, and facilities; aid in administrative tasks and special projects as needed.
- Lead and participate in the recruitment and assignment of staff; play a role in training new personnel.
- Serve as a volunteer coordinator to recruit, select, schedule, train, supervise, evaluate, and manage the deployment of adult library volunteers.
- Provide assistance in Reference, Circulation, and Children's Departments as required and help department heads optimize workflows whenever feasible.
- Exhibit leadership in pursuing the library's objectives, which includes engaging with professional literature, attending workshops and meetings, leading groups, and serving as a role model to promote excellent customer service.
- Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of library experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Familiarity with current and emerging library technologies, trends, and practices; extensive understanding of library principles
- Capability to instruct and troubleshoot across a variety of technologies and software, including computers, office equipment, automated library systems, audiovisual tools, copiers, printers, scanners, and mobile devices
- Management, planning, and supervisory abilities, with a strong aptitude for teamwork that aligns with the library's overarching goals
- Proficiency in fostering and maintaining positive working relationships with various stakeholders, including library trustees, staff, patrons, community organization representatives, volunteers, vendors, and municipal officials
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
