Department: Employment & Training Services

Reports to: Vice President of Economic Development

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week

This role is responsible for overseeing and guiding the strategic planning, development, and execution of employment and training initiatives tailored for women, non-binary individuals, and those facing multiple barriers within the YWCA Hamilton Employment and Training Services and Social Enterprise department. The position involves:

  • Providing strategic oversight and leadership in the formulation of both short- and long-term employment program strategies aligned with YWCA Hamilton's overarching goals and community needs;
  • Ensuring the effective delivery of programs within the Social Enterprise and Employment and Training Departments;
  • Assessing community needs and developing responsive programs through enhancements to existing services or the introduction of new initiatives;
  • Formulating strategies for program delivery and identifying funding sources from governmental and non-governmental entities;
  • Negotiating new service agreements, grants, and funding applications in collaboration with the Vice President of Economic Development;
  • Conducting annual evaluations of all programs and ensuring timely reporting to funding bodies;
  • Preparing comprehensive reports on program activities and outcomes for the Vice President of Economic Development;
  • Engaging in advocacy efforts to enhance employment services for women and girls in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy;
  • Representing YWCA Hamilton at relevant boards, committees, community events, and public speaking engagements, while maintaining exemplary public relations;
  • Managing and monitoring the departmental budget to meet financial objectives and address any issues that arise;
  • Ensuring programs deliver exceptional customer service and meet stakeholder expectations;
  • Developing policies and procedures for the effective and compliant delivery of departmental programs;
  • Utilizing negotiation skills to foster beneficial partnerships with employers, community organizations, and educational institutions;
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding client and employee information;
  • Directly supervising and mentoring a team of 4 employees, with indirect oversight of 12 or more, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation;
  • Exemplifying strong leadership qualities as part of the YWCA Leadership team;
  • Building and nurturing meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Promoting a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards;
  • Staying informed on emerging trends and best practices in the field;
  • Supporting the mission, vision, and values of YWCA Hamilton;
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A completed 4-year degree in business, human resources, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in the non-profit sector, focusing on employment, human or social services, social innovation, or economic development;
  • At least 5 years of management experience demonstrating effective leadership skills;
  • Experience in budget management, funding sources, and grant writing is essential;
  • Knowledge of employment and skills development issues affecting women and girls is advantageous;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels;
  • Ability to lead with a feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive perspective in daily operations and strategic planning;
  • Willingness to obtain a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters check at personal expense;
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also effectively leading teams;
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/French or other languages is a plus.
