The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team in Rankin Inlet. As a Public Health Nurse, you will provide a full continuum of public health services to individuals in the community, protecting, restoring, and promoting health and reducing the incidence of disease and disability.

You will work within the context of the Department's Model of Care, responsible for public health programs as determined by the needs of the community, with a focus on maternal child health, school health, communicable diseases, and immunizations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing health promotion, health protection, and disease/injury prevention activities
  • Working with others in the community on a range of public health issues as determined by community priorities
  • Empowering Nunavummiut to live healthy lives

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor Degree of Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with Certificate in Public Health
  • Minimum of two years public health nursing experience or related
  • Eligibility to register with RNANTNU

Assets include:

  • Experience working in remote and isolated communities
  • Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Skills Online courses
  • Canadian Nurse Association (CAN) and Canadian Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC) certification

This is a Highly Sensitive Position, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset.

Recruitment bonuses include:

  • $5,000 on start date
  • $5,000 at 18 months of service
  • $10,000 at 30 months of service

Additional premiums include:

  • $9,000 Annual Frontline Allowance
  • $375 Monthly Retention Bonus of $4,500 per year

The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce, and priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.

Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department.

Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered.
