Position Overview
The Cultural Resource Assessment Specialist plays a vital role within the Cultural Places Program (CPP) of the Government of Northwest Territories, specifically within the Culture and Heritage Division.
This role involves collaboration with the Territorial Archaeologist to ensure the protection of archaeological sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review land use permit applications and other authorizations, providing informed recommendations to land management agencies.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of archaeological overview assessments and impact studies, advising clients and archaeologists on site management strategies.
- Design and execute archaeological field projects in collaboration with local communities to enhance understanding of the region's archaeological heritage.
- Travel is required for fieldwork, necessitating adaptability to diverse cultural environments and a commitment to culturally sensitive practices.
Qualifications:
Typically, candidates will possess a Master of Arts or Master of Science in anthropology (with a focus on archaeology) or archaeology, along with three years of relevant experience in cultural resource management or archaeological research. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
