POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Legal Advisor, Employment Law, supports the Assistant Vice President, Legal Affairs by addressing all legal issues pertaining to employment law at BDC. The incumbent delivers high-quality legal services and counsel to internal stakeholders within the Human Resources department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Human Resources teams to provide clear, practical, and timely legal guidance on regulatory obligations specific to employee relations and HR programs and practices.
  • Analyze, interpret, draft, revise, and negotiate various types of HR documentation.
  • Oversee employee litigation, offering recommendations and thorough analysis of legal risks.
  • Manage relationships with external legal consultants.
  • Prepare legal opinions and conduct research on the interpretation and application of federal statutes related to employment law, including the Canada Labor Code.
  • Assist in drafting various internal governance documents.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor degree or equivalent in law.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in employment law, either in-house or in private practice.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canada Labor Code is a significant asset.
  • Experience representing clients before administrative tribunals is a plus.
  • Member of the Quebec Bar or equivalent from any Canadian province.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility with business partners.
  • Proactive approach in the workplace.
  • Excellent judgment and innovative problem-solving abilities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written.
