Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protection Social Worker to join our team at the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a key member of our Social Development and Seniors department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and assess child protection reports to determine if a child is in need of protection, in accordance with the Child Protection Act.
  • Provide child protection services, including conducting joint interviews with police, arranging medical exams, and developing clinical assessments and service plans.
  • Collaborate with service providers and the community to develop and enhance client resources.
  • Prepare cases for legal interventions and represent the Director of Child Protection in Court.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to less experienced Child Protection Social Workers and non-Social Workers.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency child protection coverage on a rotation basis.
Requirements
  • A Master of Social Work degree or a Bachelor of Social Work degree with considerable experience.
  • Eligibility for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board and for delegation under the PEI Child Protection Act.
  • A valid PEI driver's license.
  • A good previous work and attendance record and acceptable Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Protection Record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in court work.
  • Additional relevant education and experience.
