Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protection Specialist to join our team at the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a key member of our Social Development and Seniors department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into child protection reports, assessing the risk of harm to children and determining the need for intervention.
  • Develop and implement effective service plans to support children and families, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Collaborate with community-based resources and service providers to enhance client resources and support.
  • Represent the Director of Child Protection in court, preparing cases for legal interventions and advocating for the best interests of children.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to less experienced Child Protection Social Workers, mentoring and guiding them in their roles.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency child protection coverage, responding to urgent situations and providing critical support to families in crisis.
Requirements
  • A Master of Social Work degree or a Bachelor of Social Work degree with considerable experience in Social Work and child protection.
  • Eligibility for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board and delegation under the PEI Child Protection Act.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • A valid PEI driver's license and a reliable vehicle for use in carrying out employment functions.
  • A good previous work and attendance record, with an acceptable Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Protection Record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in court work, with a strong understanding of the legal system and its application to child protection cases.
  • Additional relevant education and experience in Social Work and child protection, with a focus on community-based resources and service provision.
