Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Organ Donor Coordinator to join our team at Alberta Health Services. As a key member of our transplant team, you will play a critical role in coordinating the donation process, ensuring seamless communication between families, healthcare providers, and transplant teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the donation process, including facilitating family discussions, managing donor assessment and management, and coordinating organ allocation and recovery.
  • Provide exceptional support to donor families, ensuring their needs are met throughout the donation process.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality care and efficient transplant processes.
  • Develop and implement programs to promote organ donation and support transplant services.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, ensuring best practices are implemented and maintained.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of intensive care unit (ICU) experience within the last 7 years, or current organ donation coordinator experience.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in assessment, care provision, and planning.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to emotionally challenging situations. The successful candidate must be able to lift organ coolers (up to 50lbs each) and push a cart with multiple coolers and other supplies.
