The expanding Direct Sourcing division at Sonder is in search of a visionary leader to establish the sourcing strategy for a newly formed team. This position will collaborate with our Supply Chain, Market Operations, and other departments to optimize expenditures, generate savings, and enhance Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The role encompasses both management and mentorship for team members, fostering top-tier contract management and negotiation skills, while also providing direct support for complex negotiations that significantly affect Sonder's markets. The ideal candidate excels in uncertain environments and is prepared to invest the effort required to develop new processes and systems. As a Direct Sourcing Manager, you will oversee and cultivate vendor relationships, negotiate costs, and ensure quality control for all direct purchases, including consumables, linens, and various product categories.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

LEADERSHIP IN DIRECT SOURCING

Direct the operations of the Direct Sourcing department. Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to identify potential new product requirements arising from market opportunities or projects. Partner closely with merchandising and interior design teams to: Identify avenues for enhancing design quality and cost; Implement quality improvements on existing products; Maintain a close working relationship with merchandising, interior design, inventory management, and logistics/fulfillment teams. Address product issues related to production and/or delivery delays. Manage sourcing processes and protocols within assigned categories to ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery of high-quality products. This includes: Comparative studies of products, costs, and risks; Cost negotiations informed by merchandising parameters; Tracking and reporting production exceptions; Evaluate vendor performance and provide constructive feedback to suppliers, addressing and escalating any issues that require resolution. Lead discussions with cross-functional business partners to draft comprehensive business requirements and understand their needs, facilitating the RFP/RFQ/RFI and vendor evaluation processes. Ensure the Ironclad repository (Sonder's Contract Lifecycle Management platform) is consistently updated with the latest information and metadata across all relevant contracts. Develop project plans, timelines, and workflows to ensure key milestones are captured and achieved in relation to the sourcing process. Oversee workload distribution, prioritization, execution, and KPI management for the team to enhance effectiveness and efficiency. Streamline decision-making with Procurement Leadership and the Senior Leadership Team by consolidating data and presenting it succinctly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. At least 8 years of experience in Procurement and Sourcing related to direct spend, with a focus on team building, coaching, and mentoring. Experience in the hospitality sector is preferred. Strong negotiation capabilities with a background in managing Direct contracts involving FF&E, OS&E, consumables, linens, etc. Proven ability to promote a total cost of ownership mindset and implement cost-saving initiatives through detailed analysis of strategic contracts and spending patterns. Experienced in contract management, collaborating with Legal and cross-functional partners for contract negotiations and management from initiation to final signatures. Strong project management skills, adept at handling multiple competing priorities. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, with experience engaging senior-level stakeholders. Capacity to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Willingness and enthusiasm to engage in all necessary tasks to meet the operational and strategic demands of the business.
