Role Summary

The Shelter team emphasizes a relationship-focused approach when engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. We believe that every interaction is significant. We are seeking a Shelter Operations Supervisor who understands how to support a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment and appreciates the diverse needs of the individuals we serve.

The Shelter Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in our support team. In this capacity, you will collaborate with your supervisory team to plan and allocate tasks, delegate responsibilities, monitor staff performance, provide constructive feedback, and ensure that client needs are prioritized. This role is essential for maintaining effective communication between various sites and your supervisory team, as well as coordinating follow-ups with emergency services and other necessary parties. You will oversee the frontline operations and ensure the safety of the site during your scheduled shifts.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated the ability to supervise tasks respectfully and manage a wide range of responsibilities and decisions that arise during shifts. The ideal individual will possess the philosophy, energy, and leadership skills necessary to collaborate effectively and achieve success. A solid understanding of the support requirements for individuals facing low income and complex health and housing challenges is essential.

Leadership and Compliance

The successful candidate will exemplify a commitment to fostering a culture of health, safety, and well-being among individuals by ensuring adherence to site-specific guidelines and all relevant health and safety policies, standards, regulations, and practices by program participants, staff, and visitors. Above all, we seek a motivated and dedicated individual who genuinely desires to support others and meet them where they are.

Qualifications

  • Degree or certificate in social services or equivalent education and experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory experience, including:
  • Direct oversight of daily site operations.
  • Performance evaluations, including ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Task direction and delegation.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.

Requirements

  • Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C certification.
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Job Information

  • Hourly Wage Rate: $38.77.
  • Work Days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday & every other Wednesday.
  • Work Time: 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
  • Weekly Hours: 35.
  • Union: BCGEU.
  • Benefits: Eligible for 100% employer-paid benefits, including comprehensive extended health and dental plans.
  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent.

Portability

Upon hire, candidates may be eligible to transfer hours worked with other Community Social Services Agencies under the Retention and Portability memorandum, subject to certain restrictions.

As of November 1, 2021, all staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with proof of vaccination required prior to the first day of employment.
