Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager in the daily operations of the store. This includes driving sales growth, managing staffing needs, overseeing merchandising efforts, controlling expenses, ensuring a safe environment for both employees and customers, and delivering an exceptional shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving or surpassing store goals related to sales, profits, margins, shrinkage, and labor.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to implement merchandising strategies and processes aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Work alongside Department Managers to set productivity targets and operational standards, ensuring merchandise is ordered and displayed according to company guidelines.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations as mandated by the company and relevant authorities.
  • Provide leadership by recruiting, training, and developing a customer-focused team, ensuring a welcoming shopping atmosphere.
  • Leverage new technology initiatives to enhance personal and staff proficiency.
  • Monitor competitive activities in the local market and provide insights to management to address competitive challenges.
  • Engage in community initiatives to bolster the store's reputation as a supporter of local activities.
  • Foster strong relationships with vendors and union representatives.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive management experience in the retail sector, preferably in grocery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is a significant asset.
  • Willingness to travel within the local area is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
