Position Overview

As a Personal Support Worker at VON Canada, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for clients in various settings. This position is casual and offers flexibility in work schedules, including days, evenings, and nights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and monitor the personal and home situations of clients and their families to identify any necessary adjustments in care plans.
  • Collaborate with the Personal Support Program Manager to develop and update personalized care plans based on client needs.
  • Execute modifications to care plans as directed, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate any changes in client needs or home circumstances to supervisors promptly.
  • Perform essential support tasks, including light housekeeping, meal preparation, and shopping, while ensuring a safe living environment.
  • Assist clients with personal care activities, such as mobility, hygiene, and dressing, as instructed.
  • Provide basic bedside care under the supervision of nursing staff when necessary.
  • Offer respite care to clients and support their families by providing childcare as needed.
  • Organize daily activities and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of clients effectively.
  • Complete necessary documentation and daily checks to ensure smooth operation of services.
  • Maintain open communication with healthcare team members regarding client needs and any concerns.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and VON policies to promote client safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall mission of VON.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; secondary education preferred.
  • Certification in Home Support Worker or Personal Support Worker program is required.
  • A valid Standard First Aid or CPR certification is necessary.
  • Experience in household management and working with diverse populations, including the elderly and children.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong assessment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various social and economic environments.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Additional Requirements:

  • Access to a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Search may be required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
