About the Position

Team Overview

The Safety and Compliance Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing health and safety protocols, disseminating information, organizing training initiatives, performing audits, and analyzing performance metrics. This position reports directly to the Health and Safety Specialist or Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce established workplace health and safety guidelines as per company policies and local regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments in collaboration with the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Assist in the development of health and safety policies and procedures in conjunction with site stakeholders and the corporate health and safety team.
  • Provide training to employees, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety controls in all areas.
  • Perform daily safety inspections and meetings to maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and coordinate corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective safety communication by equipping supervisors to discuss safety topics in daily meetings and conduct employee training.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance metrics, including near misses and injuries, while participating in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to refine sanitation practices and identify preventive measures for future incidents.
  • Manage the inventory of safety supplies, ensuring cost-effective ordering and usage.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Follow up with employees on modified duties during the claims management process.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety role.
  • Proven ability to foster a safety culture and effectively communicate with team members.
  • Strong attention to detail with the capability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of accuracy in administrative tasks.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, including active listening.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and in temperature-controlled environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
