Job Summary

The Secretary provides administrative support to the healthcare team in an oncology clinic setting. This role involves maintaining a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to patient calls, referring calls to other parties as necessary.
  • Coordinate appointments and tests with the clinical team.
  • Access patient information systems to retrieve patient data.
  • Arrange meetings and conferences, and prepare agendas and minutes.
  • Open, screen, and distribute mail, and maintain information and correspondence.
  • Assist with collecting, collating, and formatting reports.
  • Support clinicians with research documents and grant applications.
  • Assist with clinician scheduling and timekeeping.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 graduation from a recognized secretarial program, including a recognized course in medical transcription, and three years' recent related experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 50 wpm.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize work and operate related equipment.
  • Awareness of and commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation.
