Position Overview

As a vital member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Recreation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering a wide array of therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing the well-being of clients and their families. This position involves utilizing therapeutic techniques that encompass treatment, leisure education, and recreational engagement to foster physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored treatment plans focused on leisure opportunities and resources.
  • Facilitate recreational activities that promote independence and improve the quality of life for clients.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance Therapeutic Recreation Services.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies, specializing in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and various disability groups.
  • Strong knowledge of leisure and recreation assessment methodologies.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on counseling.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously.
  • Competencies in establishing positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to select appropriate recreational activities based on client needs.
  • Additional language skills, particularly in French, are considered an asset.

Work Schedule

This is a permanent full-time position, requiring a commitment of 75 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $42.01.
