Position Overview

As a vital member of a multidisciplinary team, the Recreation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering a wide array of therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing the well-being of clients and their families. This position focuses on utilizing leisure education, recreation participation, and therapeutic treatment to foster improvements in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Recreation Therapist include:

  • Conducting assessments and developing tailored treatment plans that address leisure opportunities and resources.
  • Facilitating activities that aim to improve client independence and overall health.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives to enhance Therapeutic Recreation Services.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure excellence in client care.
Qualifications

We invite applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies, with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist from the NCTRC.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and disability groups is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of leisure and recreation assessments, as well as leisure education and counseling processes.
  • Understanding of various health conditions and their implications for well-being.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with effective counseling abilities.
  • Proven capability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously.
  • Ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships and select appropriate activities for clients.
  • Competency in additional languages is an asset, with a preference for French.
Work Schedule

This is a full-time, permanent position requiring a commitment of 75 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $42.01.
