As a vital member of a collaborative healthcare team, the Recreation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering a variety of therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing the well-being of clients and their families. This position focuses on utilizing recreational activities and leisure education to foster improvements in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Recreation Therapist will:
- Conduct assessments to develop tailored treatment plans that incorporate leisure opportunities and resources.
- Implement therapeutic recreation strategies to support clients in achieving optimal health and independence.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of Therapeutic Recreation Services.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive client care.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies, with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
- Experience working with diverse populations and disability groups.
- Strong knowledge of leisure and recreation assessment methodologies.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, along with counseling abilities.
- The capacity to prioritize tasks and work autonomously.
- Proficiency in establishing positive interpersonal relationships.
- Competence in selecting appropriate recreational activities.
- Additional language skills, particularly in French, are considered an asset.
This is a full-time, permanent position requiring a commitment of 75 hours bi-weekly.
CompensationThe hourly wage for this position is $42.01.
