We are currently seeking a seasoned Director, Finance to join our team.

Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this senior management position plays a vital role within the finance department and across all entities within Mara Renewables. The Director, Finance will collaborate closely with the CFO, overseeing all internal financial operations while the CFO manages external relations.

As the Director, Finance, you will be the central figure in managing internal business and financial processes. This leadership role involves guiding direct reports and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the expanding finance operations. You will be integral in unifying various aspects of the organization.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing financial reporting and managing the organization’s funding requirements, supported by the accounting team that provides monthly financial data for consolidation and reporting.

The consolidated financial outcomes are crucial for a wide range of stakeholders who rely on them for funding, investment, and lending decisions. These financial statements adhere to Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Entities.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will lead the accounting and finance team at Mara, offering high-value insights on technical matters. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Supervising and reviewing the consolidation of operational results and preparing financial reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with senior auditors to address technical GAAP issues and proactively establish accounting policies.
  • Managing relationships with external auditors.
  • Developing and overseeing budgeting and forecasting processes, including reviewing and packaging budgets for stakeholder evaluation.
  • Engaging financial professionals as necessary to address tax, risk management, and financing issues.
  • Working with business unit controllers to create a framework for internal controls over financial reporting and mitigating risks related to occupational fraud.
  • Advising portfolio companies on accounting matters and changes to corporate accounting policies.
  • Managing vendor relationships with our ERP provider.
  • Collaborating across functions to ensure operational, sales, R&D, and capital project needs are met while proactively addressing financial issues.
  • Overseeing treasury functions, including sales collections, fund disbursements, and maintaining positive banking relationships.
  • Coordinating with currency advisors and brokers to minimize transaction costs and establish hedging strategies for currency exposure.
  • Liaising with group controllers for investment or cash transfers as necessary.
  • Managing relationships and reporting for equity investors and CTDI shareholders.
  • Coordinating annual insurance renewals by completing applications and communicating with brokers.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in senior financial reporting roles is essential.
  • A strong educational background in finance, with a Canadian CPA designation required.
  • Additional qualifications such as MBAs or other post-secondary degrees/certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly Xero, is considered a valuable asset.
