Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Policy and Planning to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing departmental policy and legislative initiatives, as well as overseeing a team of policy staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement departmental policy and legislative initiatives
  • Oversee a team of policy staff, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Conduct research and analysis to ensure that departmental goals and initiatives are properly researched
  • Prepare and complete ministerial briefing materials
  • Coordinate departmental communication with the public media
  • Oversee consultations with respect to departmental policy and legislative initiatives
  • Provide timely advice on a broad range of issues, including administration of justice, corrections, policing, and justice legislative initiatives
  • Manage the budget of the division
Requirements
  • Recognized university degree in Social Sciences, Law, Criminology, Liberal Arts, or a related field
  • Five years of related policy experience
  • Two years of experience in supervising staff and overseeing the work of staff in a legal or policy development setting
  • Experience in working with the media and the public
  • Experience in the justice system
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Fluency in two or more of Nunavut's official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets
