Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health as a Licensed Practical Nurse specializing in Renal-Haemodialysis.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking dedicated Licensed Practical Nurses to become integral members of the Renal Hemodialysis unit. We invite you to explore this opportunity to contribute to patient care.

Responsibilities of the Role

Collaborate closely with Registered Nurses in delivering direct care to patients within the renal hemodialysis group. Deliver care to patients and their families, focusing on stable health conditions, while performing assessments, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services according to established care protocols. Engage in care planning, advocate for clients, and educate patients and their families on health issues and wellness strategies. Enhance the quality of life from the client and family perspective. Build, maintain, and strengthen therapeutic relationships grounded in respect. Identify and respond to unexpected patient outcomes through effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team. Accurately document care provided and address incidents following established policies and procedures. Consult and collaborate with other healthcare professionals as necessary.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Completion of a recognized Practical Nurse program, successful completion of an advanced nephrology nursing program, and two (2) years of recent relevant experience in an acute care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Skills & Competencies

Proven nursing practice skills relevant to the renal hemodialysis patient population. Strong understanding of pathophysiology associated with common diagnoses in this patient group (e.g., renal failure). Competence in performing nursing assessments and interventions related to common diagnoses and specific clinical scenarios relevant to this patient group (e.g., end-stage renal failure; basic wound care), including safe medication practices. Ability to make informed clinical decisions to ensure safe and ethical care for a select group of patients. Knowledge of and access to appropriate resources within the service delivery model to support nursing practice. Capacity to recognize potential complications and care issues pertinent to the patient group by notifying the RN and/or the most responsible provider. Maintain proficiency in the correct use of dialysis equipment and supplies. Document patient care accurately and timely in accordance with organizational standards. Demonstrated skill in techniques related to hemodialysis. Proficient in performing LPN scope of practice and standards of care relevant to the designated patient population, including infection control measures.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
