Position Overview
Join our dedicated team as a Practical Nurse specializing in Renal Care. Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking skilled Practical Nurses to contribute to the Renal Care unit. This role is essential in providing high-quality patient care and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Registered Nurses in delivering direct care to patients within the renal care setting.
- Offer comprehensive care to patients and their families, focusing on stable health conditions and executing established care plans.
- Engage in care planning, advocate for clients, and educate patients and families on health management and wellness.
- Strive to enhance the quality of life for clients and their families.
- Build and maintain therapeutic relationships grounded in respect and understanding.
- Identify and address unexpected patient outcomes by effectively communicating with the healthcare team.
- Accurately document care provided and respond to incidents in line with established protocols.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as necessary to ensure optimal patient care.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Completion of a recognized Practical Nursing program, an advanced nephrology nursing program, and a minimum of two years of relevant experience in an acute care setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Skills & Competencies
- Proven nursing practice skills relevant to the renal patient population.
- Strong understanding of pathophysiology related to common renal conditions.
- Competence in performing nursing assessments and interventions pertinent to renal care.
- Ability to make informed clinical decisions to ensure safe and ethical patient care.
- Skill in recognizing potential complications and alerting the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Proficiency in using dialysis equipment and maintaining necessary competencies.
- Ability to document patient care accurately and timely in accordance with organizational standards.
- Expertise in hemodialysis techniques and relevant nursing practices.
Additional Information
Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
