Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization, the City of Oshawa, in its mission to provide a vibrant community for adults aged 55 and over. The successful candidate will oversee the strategic and operational efficiencies of our programs and staff, and will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization's vision, mission, and governance model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Governance
    • Work closely with the Board of Directors to support and implement the organization's vision, mission, and governance model.
    • Research and advise on strategic issues and trends, business planning, and operational results.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Act as a key liaison with various levels of government, key stakeholders, and agencies.
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with community agencies, government, and funding providers.
  • Business Development
    • Create business plans for achieving goals and objectives set in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Meet annual fundraising goals in partnership with the Board of Directors.
  • Communication and Marketing
    • Develop communication plans and stakeholder strategies to promote the organization's objectives.
    • Provide direction and leadership for the development and implementation of key marketing and outreach initiatives.
  • Team Leadership
    • Provide progressive leadership to motivate, inspire, coach, and empower a high-performing team.
    • Create a positive, healthy, and productive work environment fostering trust and empowerment amongst staff.
  • Operational Management
    • Manage staff, clients, and volunteers whose experiences, cultures, and languages reflect the community served by the organization.
    • Ensure effective and appropriate use of volunteers in accordance with Volunteer Services policies.
    • Ensure compliance with various legislation and regulations.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Four-year degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Sports/Recreation, Public or Health Care Administration, Human/Social Services, etc.).
  • Experience
    • Eight to ten years of related experience, three years of which should be at the senior leadership level.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Knowledge and experience in organizational/resource management, including facilities management and budget planning.
    • Proven track record of developing and navigating complex stakeholder relationships.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills to develop and present complex briefings, reports, and proposals.
