Laboratory Technician/ Sample Logistics Coordinator

Job Summary:

Bureau Veritas is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician/ Sample Logistics Coordinator to join our Food Sample Logistics Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory procedures and sample logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Bureau Veritas' Code of Ethics Policy and support the implementation of our Quality System and Health & Safety programs.
  • Perform sample preparation and procedures related to the microbial analyses of food samples, and provide general laboratory support.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure.
  • Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis.
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize the risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up, and cross-contamination between samples and other materials.
  • Unpack food samples from coolers and organize them according to requirements.
  • Confirm that the samples received match the documentation.
  • Identify and report all concerns with submissions, such as missing samples and the condition of samples.
  • Escalate issues to senior staff as needed.
  • Create, organize, and manage paperwork.
  • Input all information into a computerized system (data entry).
  • Sort and distribute all samples appropriately, which will be sent to other departments for testing.
  • Work closely with other team members and supervisory staff to report and resolve issues.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, neat, tidy, safe, and secure working environment.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
  • Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
  • Keep work area clean, neat, and organized according to good housekeeping procedures.

Requirements:

  • Possess a post-secondary education and/or equivalent related work experience in an analytical laboratory.
  • Must be able to distinguish between different color reactions.
  • Must be able to handle all kinds of food samples, including (but not limited to) peanuts/nuts, raw meat, seafood, beer/wine, soy, dairy, and wheat.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated with a positive outlook and 'can-do' attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
  • Organized with a professional attitude.
  • Some lifting required (up to 40 lbs).
  • Detail-oriented and record-keeping skills.
  • Learns quickly.
  • Adapts to a changing environment.

Working Conditions:

This role requires full-time hours, and full flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime is common.
