As an integral part of our multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner will leverage clinical proficiency and comprehensive knowledge of pediatric and adolescent care to strategize and assess patient management. The ideal candidate will exhibit leadership qualities and advocate for nursing excellence by offering specialized expertise in clinical practice, consultation, education, and research focusing on the pediatric and transitional age demographics.
The primary duties of this position include identifying, evaluating, consulting, and delivering clinical interventions to children and adolescents, particularly those within the Mental Health spectrum. This encompasses providing tailored assessments, coordination, and treatment for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. The Nurse Practitioner will offer supportive counseling, educational resources, and guidance to children, adolescents, and their families within the Urgent Care setting, assisting clients in recognizing and addressing mental health concerns. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team within the Mental Health Program and establishing connections with relevant community organizations is essential. This role is situated within the Child & Adolescent program in Mental Health.
Required Qualifications
Halton Healthcare Services is on the lookout for individuals who are distinguished leaders in their field. The successful candidate should be a collaborative team player with strong communication abilities. They must demonstrate a patient-centered approach, compassion, respect, and fiscal responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master's Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent is preferred.
- Current registration in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario is mandatory, ideally with a Primary Health Care specialty certificate.
- A Nurse Practitioner’s Certificate from an accredited program.
- Active membership in a professional association such as CNA, RNAO, or NPAO is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in Mental Health, particularly with a focus on Children & Adolescents and Eating Disorders.
- Proficiency in conducting bio-psychosocial assessments and strong formulation skills to create person-centered, strength-based strategies that reflect evidence-based practices.
- Experience in motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care methodologies.
- An integrated care model that includes connecting clients to primary care and/or enhancing existing relationships with primary care providers to meet client needs.
- Knowledge of individual, family, group, and crisis counseling techniques.
- Proven ability to work with families of individuals facing mental health and substance use disorders.
- Demonstrated expertise in concurrent mental health and substance use disorders.
- Substantial experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a high-pressure, fast-paced healthcare environment.
- A solid understanding of diverse cultures and the principles of cultural safety.
- Experience in aligning treatment services and interventions with the unique circumstances of clients and their families.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and relevant electronic health care platforms.
- A satisfactory employment and attendance record is required.
- Experience in providing psychoeducation and psychotherapy is preferred.
