Saplings Outdoor Program is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an After School Forest Educator. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality outdoor education programs to school-aged children in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Key Responsibilities- Program Development: Collaborate with our management team to design and implement a dynamic forest program that meets the needs of our students.
- Safety and Risk Management: Ensure the safety of all children during forest play, hiking, climbing, and other outdoor activities, while also promoting risk-taking and physical development.
- Program Delivery: Deliver engaging and interactive outdoor education programs that cater to the needs of our students, including preparation of learning areas and materials.
- Equipment Management: Assume overall responsibility for program tools and equipment, including safety, use, and maintenance.
- Seasonal Activities: Plan, prepare, and co-create seasonal activities and projects utilizing natural materials, locally foraged or sourced.
- Mentorship: Implement mentorship strategies that are individually focused and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on compassion and respect.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and other stakeholders, as needed.
- Physical Demands: Be physically capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm, regardless of weather conditions, including walking distances and over uneven terrain.
- First Aid Certificate: Current certification in first aid is required.
- Criminal Record Check: A current criminal record check is also required.
- Experience: Work experience with school-aged children, preferably in outdoor education, is essential.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for interacting with children and parents.
- Hourly Rate: $20-$24 per hour.
- Benefits: Benefits are available for those who work more than 20 hours per week.
