Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our team at BC Cancer. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical units, providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe and process clinician orders, completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services, and scheduling appointments and tests with the appropriate departments and processes.
- Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, coordinating numerous interrelated appointments and preparing and communicating related instructions to patients.
- Gather patient information for medical appointments, assisting in facilitating an efficient patient flow, and requesting, receiving, and transporting patient information to designated clinical areas.
- Perform a variety of receptionist duties, including greeting and registering patients, supporting wayfinding, answering the telephone and switchboard, and responding to inquiries and relaying verbal and written messages.
- Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures and answering related queries, and support student clinical practicums as required.
Requirements
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
