Unit Clerk Role Overview

As a Unit Clerk in our Ambulatory Care Unit, you will be the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional care and support throughout their journey. Your keen observation skills, compassionate communication, and organizational talents will make you a valuable asset to our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and process clinician orders, ensuring timely and accurate completion of requisitions and scheduling of tests or services.
  • Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, coordinating interrelated appointments and preparing related instructions for patients.
  • Gather patient information for medical appointments, facilitating efficient patient flow and preparing documents for the clinical team.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including greeting and registering patients, answering phone calls, and responding to inquiries.
  • Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures and answering related queries.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, demonstrating physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work, operate related equipment, and utilize various computer software applications.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
