Disability Management Specialist – Occupational Health and Wellness

Temporary Full Time Position

Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health and Wellness, the incumbent will oversee the efficient implementation of established occupational health initiatives, protocols, and services. This role involves identifying early and safe return-to-work options for employees who are injured or ill, as well as developing and facilitating tailored return-to-work or modified work plans. The specialist will manage both Non-Occupational Health cases and WSIB files, which includes communication with WSIB Case Managers and Adjudicators, as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. A proactive case management approach is essential to support workplace parties throughout the recovery and return-to-work process, while addressing the needs of both workers and employers, and helping them understand their rights, responsibilities, and obligations. Additionally, the Disability Management Specialist will work in partnership to enhance safety and promote the proactive prevention of workplace incidents for Mackenzie Health staff.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in health sciences or a related field (such as Nursing, Kinesiology, or Physiotherapy).

Additional Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in Disability Claim Management, ideally within a unionized healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment, including intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and adaptability to shifting priorities.
  • Excellent time management and organizational capabilities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of attendance.
  • Understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to fulfill the essential duties of the position.
  • Demonstrates empathy in interactions and embodies behaviors consistent with Mackenzie Health's Commitment to Caring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Disability Management.
  • Familiarity with Parklane software program.
