DNV is expanding our Strategy Team within the Energy Systems division and is seeking a Senior Energy Transition Consultant to contribute to grid modernization and system decarbonization initiatives. This position will entail leading and supporting projects and business development efforts focused on strategic issues in the energy transition, including grid modernization, decarbonization, non-wires alternatives, distribution planning, distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and evolving utility economics and energy market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams in delivering strategic research studies and analyses, acting as a technical lead, project manager, or subject matter expert. This includes client engagement, proposal development, leadership of project tasks, and preparation of deliverables.
  • Provide insights and support research and analysis on strategic energy transition projects, including resource adoption potential, demand flexibility, distribution system planning, and benefit-cost analyses.
  • Develop resources and tools for grid modernization and distributed energy resources strategies, enhancing modeling techniques and design.
  • Collaborate with DNV teams across North America and globally to identify opportunities for innovation and develop creative solutions to client challenges.
  • Translate client challenges into value-added opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment, building and maintaining interpersonal relationships while guiding researchers and consultants.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of quality, effectiveness, and timeliness; leverage analysts and consultants to maintain accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Statistics, Economics, Environmental and Energy Policy, Engineering).
  • At least 7 years of experience in data analysis, engineering, or market research.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the electric utility sector.
  • A demonstrated eagerness to learn and adapt to market trends, particularly in distributed energy resources and grid modernization.
  • A creative approach to problem-solving, with an interest in utilizing data and research effectively.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams to enhance overall performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences.
  • Strong ability to manage tasks within quality, budget, and deadline constraints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in analyzing or forecasting energy and demand savings, and understanding the impact of energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resources.
  • Background in consulting or collaborative research environments, particularly with electric utilities or regional grid operators.
