About This OpportunityThe Mental Health and Addiction Program (MHAP) is seeking a full-time physician to collaborate within an inter-professional clinical team, delivering evidence-based withdrawal management and associated mental health and addiction services in an outpatient setting.
The physician will be expected to work a total of 37.5 hours per week, with scheduled hours from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. There may be potential for virtual care, which can be discussed further. This position may be shared among multiple physicians.
Responsibilities- Evaluate and manage substance use disorders;
- Collaborate with the clinical team to initiate and oversee withdrawal management protocols;
- Assess and address other medical and psychiatric conditions as necessary;
- Conduct risk assessments and implement interventions for self-harm or harm to others;
- Develop and execute care and discharge plans in partnership with clients, the clinical team, and families;
- Facilitate transitions of care across various settings;
- Provide trauma-informed and culturally sensitive care;
- Deliver brief interventions related to substance use and concurrent disorders;
- Maintain accurate and timely health records in compliance with Nova Scotia Health documentation policies.
The physician will work a total of 37.5 hours per week, with hours scheduled from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
Qualifications- Current medical license issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS);
- Current certification in addiction medicine through recognized professional organizations;
- Must hold, or be willing to obtain, active credentials and privileges with NSHA;
- Must maintain liability insurance through the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- Clinical experience in addiction medicine is advantageous but not mandatory;
- Experience in a medical withdrawal management service is beneficial; training and mentoring opportunities are available for those with limited or no clinical experience in this area.
