About This RoleThe Mental Health and Addiction Program (MHAP) is in search of a full-time physician to collaborate within a multidisciplinary clinical team. The role involves delivering evidence-based withdrawal management and comprehensive mental health and addiction services in an outpatient setting.
The physician will be expected to work a total of 37.5 hours per week, with scheduled hours from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. There may be opportunities for virtual consultations, which can be discussed further.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and manage substance use disorders.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to establish and oversee withdrawal management protocols.
- Assess and treat additional medical and psychiatric conditions as necessary.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement interventions for self-harm or harm to others.
- Develop and execute care and discharge plans in partnership with clients, the clinical team, and families.
- Facilitate transitions of care across various healthcare settings.
- Deliver trauma-informed and culturally sensitive care.
- Provide brief interventions related to substance use and concurrent disorders.
- Maintain accurate and timely health records in compliance with documentation policies.
The physician will maintain a total of 37.5 hours per week, with working hours set from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
Qualifications- Must possess a current medical license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Current certification in addiction medicine from recognized professional organizations is preferred.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain active credentials and privileges with NSHA.
- Liability insurance through the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
- Experience in addiction medicine is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Experience in a medical withdrawal management service is beneficial; training and mentorship are available for candidates with limited experience.
