Overview of the Position

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is looking for dedicated Emergency Medicine Specialists to enhance our medical team. We offer both full-time and part-time positions, along with immediate locum opportunities. Our state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide a welcoming environment with abundant natural light and a supportive staff. The emergency department operates at Level 2, catering to approximately 32,000 patients each year, spanning all age groups. Our emergency services are bolstered by a diverse range of specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, urology, and anesthesia. We provide 24/7 access to CT scanning and in-house respiratory therapy. There is also potential for collaboration with nurse practitioners who have established practices in support of the emergency department. Our facility is equipped with cutting-edge bedside technology, such as bedside ultrasound, video laryngoscopy, and a newly established simulation lab. Additionally, opportunities for mixed practice, including hospitalist/EM and family practice/EM, are available.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients within the designated zone.
  • Report to the zone department head for emergency medicine regarding professional responsibilities and quality of care, adhering to the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Work Schedule
  • Full-time and part-time positions available.
  • Locum opportunities are also offered.
  • Shift lengths range from 6 to 10 hours.
Required Qualifications
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Family physicians must hold membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Specialists should be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
  • Advanced training in ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and airway management is mandatory.
