Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Education Consultant to join our team at the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives. As an Education Consultant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of nursing and midwifery education programs in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Review and Recognition
    • Lead reviews of entry-level nursing and midwifery programs and courses in accordance with the BCCNM Education Program Review Policies and Guidelines.
    • Assess all evidence submitted during the program review, drafting reports and briefing notes for the Education Program Review Committee.
    • Draft program recognition reports and letters, site visit instructions, and other correspondence to education program administrators.
  • Education Program Review Committee Support
    • Provide leadership and support to the Education Program Review Committee to plan and implement regular policy reviews, including education standards and indicators.
    • Recommend revisions for Board approval.
  • Communication and Consultation
    • Maintain communication with education program administrators and keep them informed of the steps and timing of the program review process.
    • Provide consultation to education programs regarding the requirements for program review and recognition.
  • Strategic Initiatives
    • Support the Director, Education Program Review, on strategic initiatives such as exam development, development and dissemination of entry-level competencies, and policy development and implementation.
    • Plan and implement regular review and revision of entry-level competencies for LPNs, RPNs, RNs, NPs, and RMs.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders, including educators, employers, and jurisdictional counterparts.
    • Liaise with the BCCNM Registration program on examination administration.
  • Professional Development
    • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning related to Indigenous cultural safety and humility and supporting organizational actions towards addressing Indigenous-specific racism in BC's health care system.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Doctoral or master's degree in nursing or midwifery or a related field.
  • Experience
    • Over ten years of experience in nursing or midwifery positions and three to five years as an educator in an educational institution.
    • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation of nursing and midwifery students and program outcomes.
  • Skills
    • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, group facilitation and collaboration skills, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Experience in continuous quality improvement strategy development and short- and long-term strategic planning.
    • Ability to make decisions independently and collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Registration
    • Must hold practicing registration in good standing with BCCNM or be eligible for practicing registration with BCCNM.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and Experience
    • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts.
    • Knowledge of Indigenous-specific anti-racism and accompanying reports.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility as they apply to health care.
