Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Manager of Surgical Scheduling and Optimization in the Vancouver Acute Care sector.
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Manager of Surgical Scheduling and Optimization to become an integral part of our team. Reporting to the Operations Director of Surgical Services, this role involves overseeing the allocation of surgical schedules, managing waitlist data, and ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health policies across the surgical continuum.
The Manager will play a pivotal role in enhancing operational processes within the Surgical Programs and various healthcare facilities. This position will lead the integration of surgical programs with Health Information Management systems and other relevant data sources to drive process improvements and operational efficiency. Collaboration with Health System Planning Advisors and Operational Directors will be essential in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Finalize daily operating room schedules across various sites, including private facilities. Oversee the reallocation of operating room time to maximize efficiency and utilization. Directly manage the Vancouver Acute Operating Room Booking Team and supervise scheduling clerks. Ensure alignment with Ministry of Health waitlist management priorities and regional initiatives. Streamline operations by understanding site-specific processes within the Vancouver Acute Care community. Maintain effective communication between the surgical program and healthcare providers. Supervise error correction and waitlist management processes to ensure accurate reporting. Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, addressing performance management issues as necessary. Develop and deliver training to surgical staff to enhance understanding of surgical strategies and initiatives. Coordinate with other VCH sites regarding waitlist management priorities. Assist the Director in identifying strategic directions related to operating room scheduling. Stay informed about current surgical trends through research and professional development opportunities. Perform additional related duties as assigned.Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional training in strategic planning and system implementation within a multi-site healthcare environment is preferred.Knowledge & Skills
Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff at all organizational levels. Ability to build collaborative relationships that foster trust and mutual respect. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Comprehensive understanding of healthcare administration, including strategic and operational planning. Proficient in budget development, financial analysis, and information management. Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex projects within tight timelines. Excellent time management skills and the ability to delegate effectively. Skilled in report writing and preparing business proposals for senior management. Ability to analyze and make decisions that support large organizational operations. Capable of implementing and evaluating system changes across multiple sites. Creative problem-solving skills with a global perspective. Proficient in relevant computer applications and equipment. Commitment to continuous improvement in work processes.
