Department Overview: The Business Development Department at UTSC offers a variety of services, including:

  1. Custom Publishing and Academic Printing
  2. Conference and Retail Services
  3. Food and Beverage Operations
  4. TCard Management
  5. Internal Event Coordination
  6. Miller Lash House Services

This department plays a crucial role in enhancing the experience of students, faculty, staff, and external clients by providing quality services and identifying new business opportunities.

Position Overview: Reporting to the Director, the Finance Manager is tasked with overseeing complex financial and administrative functions essential for achieving the objectives of the Business Development Department. This role involves advising the Director on financial strategies, managing budgets, and ensuring effective human resources management within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Forecast financial performance and analyze variances.
  • Conduct financial assessments and provide recommendations for budgetary implications.
  • Implement improvements in business processes.
  • Review and maintain financial controls to ensure integrity.
  • Oversee human resources functions related to administrative staff.
  • Lead operational projects and financial performance evaluations.

Essential Qualifications:

Education: A university degree along with a professional accounting certification or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within a post-secondary institution. Proven track record in managing complex budgets and providing financial guidance to senior management is essential.

Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, along with advanced knowledge of finance and accounting principles. Familiarity with financial and human resources information systems is required. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are necessary.
