ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client, a prominent engineering consulting firm located in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to spearhead the commissioning process and contribute to the leadership team as an Associate. This firm engages in a diverse array of projects across commercial, institutional, and mixed-use sectors, offering an exceptional opportunity for individuals aiming to advance their careers.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The primary focus of this role will be on commissioning projects. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and maintaining commissioning test procedures and documentation, including logs and equipment checklists;
  • Creating detailed reports that encompass recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, and lists of deficiencies;
  • Engaging in business development, proposal preparation, and leading commissioning initiatives;
  • Reviewing design criteria, specifications, drawings, and equipment submittals relevant to commissioning;
  • Administering functional tests for various building MEP systems, including fire alarm systems, HVAC, chillers, and integrated system testing;
  • Compiling results from testing procedures and preparing commissioning plans;
  • Adhering to company quality control processes and managing external resources;
  • Scheduling and directing commissioning meetings as needed;
  • Participating in construction and coordination meetings as required;
  • Collaborating with clients, contractors, equipment vendors, and owners' agents;
  • Executing project assignments and interfacing with project contractors and testing technicians;
  • Verifying test report results and assisting with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment;
  • Mentoring and managing staff to develop a commissioning team within the firm.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 5 years working with Canadian building codes and regulations;
  • Ability to work in a hybrid model in Calgary, Alberta;
  • 4+ years of experience with mechanical systems in commercial, institutional, or residential projects (experience in oil & gas or heavy industrial sectors is not applicable);
  • Experience in inspections and commissioning, with a focus on leading the development of the commissioning team;
  • Registered EIT or Licensed Engineer with APEGA or a relevant association is preferred;
  • Leadership experience, particularly in mentoring junior staff, is an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of relevant building codes and standards;
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to devise effective solutions.
