Position: Laboratory Technologist at Vancouver Coastal Health
Overview:
Join the Clinical Laboratory team at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Laboratory Technologist. This role is essential in delivering high-quality laboratory services.
- Conduct a range of routine and complex laboratory tests using both manual techniques and automated equipment within a specified laboratory setting.
- Handle responsibilities including patient interaction, specimen collection and reception, validation and reporting of test outcomes, instrument maintenance, and preparation of solutions and control agents following established protocols and safety regulations.
- Engage in departmental training initiatives in areas such as chemistry and hematology to enhance knowledge of new and existing tests and procedures applicable in the laboratory.
Work Location: Vancouver Coastal Health
VCH offers a comprehensive suite of services, including acute care, long-term care, emergency services, laboratory and diagnostic imaging, Telehealth, mental health, public health, community support services, and pharmacy services.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science and completion of basic care training.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Fundamental understanding of laboratory processes and techniques, including quality assurance.
- Awareness of other healthcare disciplines and their contributions to patient care using point-of-care technology.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Capability to perform under pressure in a dynamic setting.
- Ability to prioritize workload in cooperation with colleagues.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capacity to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
- Proficiency in operating relevant equipment and applying techniques suited to the designated laboratory areas.
