The Evening Reception Coordinator plays a vital role in providing a warm and supportive reception service. This position collaborates with a dedicated team to create a meaningful environment for tenants, participants, and guests, utilizing a feminist framework that addresses the complexities of trauma, mental health, and systemic oppression. Additionally, the role encompasses essential administrative tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the reception area.
ABOUT YWCA TORONTO - 1st STOP WOODLAWN
This program offers shelter accommodations for youth (16-24 years) and adult (25 and older) women, trans, and non-binary participants. Operating as part of a congregate living site, it includes permanent housing units and adheres to established shelter standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Welcomes and directs tenants, participants, guests, contractors, and suppliers; Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding the program and directs calls appropriately; Manages client concerns with professionalism, de-escalating potential conflicts; May attend hearings as a witness when necessary; Applies understanding of trauma and abuse dynamics to effectively support tenant requests; Facilitates orientation for new tenants to ensure they are familiar with programs and community resources; Maintains knowledge of relevant community services to assist tenant needs; Keeps updated occupancy and tenant lists; Prepares daily housekeeping lists and communicates room availability; Distributes meal vouchers and menus to tenants; Relays maintenance requests from residents to the appropriate staff; Inputs medical appointments for shelter residents into the designated system; Monitors building activities through surveillance systems; Reviews security logs and addresses issues with appropriate staff; Responds to on-site emergencies following established procedures; Takes necessary actions to address safety hazards and reports them accordingly. QUALIFICATIONS Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work) (Equivalency cases will be considered); 1-3 years of relevant experience in supportive housing; Strong customer service, organizational, and administrative skills; Familiarity with security systems is an asset; Experience in a residential setting is beneficial; Ability to provide culturally sensitive services in a diverse environment; Knowledge and experience working with individuals facing housing instability, poverty, trauma, and mental health challenges; Understanding of anti-oppression frameworks and trauma-informed practices; Knowledge of harm reduction principles; Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act; Completion of relevant training programs is an asset; Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and in crisis situations; Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities.
