The Evening Reception Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing a warm and supportive reception service. This position collaborates with a dedicated team to foster a meaningful environment for tenants, participants, and guests, utilizing a feminist framework that includes a knowledgeable response to the dynamics of trauma, mental health, and oppression. Additionally, this role encompasses essential administrative tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the reception area.

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO - 1st STOP WOODLAWN
This program offers shelter accommodations for youth (16-24 years) and adult (25 and older) women, trans, and non-binary participants. Operating as part of a congregate living site, it includes permanent housing units and is funded by the City of Toronto, adhering to established shelter standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Welcomes and directs tenants, participants, guests, contractors, and suppliers to the facility; Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding the program and directs calls to the appropriate personnel; Manages client concerns with professionalism and diplomacy, effectively de-escalating potential conflicts; May attend hearings as a witness when required; Utilizes knowledge of trauma and the dynamics of abuse to provide effective support to tenants; Assists in orienting new tenants to ensure they are familiar with programs, staff, and the community environment; Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant community services to address tenant needs; Keeps occupancy lists and tenant records current; Prepares daily housekeeping lists and communicates room availability to relevant staff; Distributes weekly meal vouchers and daily menus to tenants; Relays maintenance requests from residents and staff to the appropriate service personnel; Inputs medical appointments and cancellations for residents into the designated system; Monitors activities around the building through surveillance systems; Reviews and responds to security log entries, referring issues to the appropriate staff; Addresses on-site emergencies using established procedures; Takes necessary actions to report and mitigate potential safety hazards. QUALIFICATIONS Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work) (Equivalency cases will be considered); 1-3 years of relevant experience in supportive housing; Strong customer service, organizational, and administrative skills; Familiarity with security operating systems is an asset; Experience in a residential setting is advantageous; Ability to provide culturally sensitive services in a diverse environment; Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with individuals facing precarious housing, poverty, trauma, and mental health issues; Understanding of anti-oppression frameworks and trauma-informed practices; Knowledge of harm reduction principles; Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act; Completion of relevant training programs is an asset; Proven ability to remain calm and effective under pressure; Experience in crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation; Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
