Senior Finance Operations Analyst

About the Role

As a Senior Finance Operations Analyst, you will report directly to the Supervisor of Financial Analysis & Reporting. Your primary responsibilities will include collaborating with various operational leaders and executives to enhance financial and capital planning, as well as the analysis and reporting processes across our organization. This role will oversee both regulated and unregulated capital operations, focusing on budgeting, forecasting, and comprehensive reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Collaborate with operational departments to create annual budgets, financial forecasts, and conduct monthly variance analyses.
  • Capital Budgeting: Lead the capital budgeting and forecasting processes, assisting teams with the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
  • Audit Support: Manage all capital inquiries for external audits, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Operational Support: Aid the Operations team in decision-making by identifying financial risks and opportunities, providing strategic advice on financial matters.
  • Performance Review: Analyze operating results across all divisions, identifying trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Reporting: Prepare financial presentations and reports for senior management and the Board, emphasizing critical findings.
  • Investment Evaluation: Support the assessment and negotiation of potential investments in energy projects.
  • Financial Modelling: Develop and maintain financial models to provide insights that support business decisions and performance assessments.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives through the automation and integration of business processes.
  • Metrics Development: Assist in the creation and monitoring of key business performance metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree along with a recognized professional accounting designation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance and accounting, with a solid understanding of IFRS guidelines.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario electricity market and utility regulations is advantageous.
  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools will be beneficial.
  • Proven expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across various teams.
  • Exceptional time management and decision-making capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Technologically adept, with a proactive approach to learning new systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
