Position Overview:

The Oncology Nurse is tasked with delivering holistic care to patients throughout their oncology journey. This includes responsibilities such as assessment, intervention, treatment administration, care coordination, and follow-up in an outpatient setting. The Oncology Nurse will engage in patient and family education, conduct essential nursing assessments, collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team, and implement suitable interventions. Nursing staff regularly handle cytotoxic and hazardous medications, with personal protective equipment (PPE) and training provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive cancer care to patients.
  • Participate in patient and family education initiatives.
  • Conduct nursing assessments and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Administer treatments and manage follow-up care.

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or eligibility within six weeks.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as per applicable policies.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Scope of Practice as outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Windows, Word, and Outlook.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory care settings.
  • Knowledge and experience in oncology.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Ability to communicate in French.

Assets:

  • Certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse [CON(C)].
  • Experience in wound care management.
  • Knowledge of care for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
