Job Summary:

The Oncology Nurse is responsible for providing holistic cancer care to patients throughout the oncology experience. This includes assessment, intervention, treatment administration, coordination of care, and follow-up in the ambulatory setting. The successful candidate will participate in patient/family education, make pertinent nursing assessments, collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team, and provide appropriate interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide holistic cancer care to patients throughout the oncology experience
  • Participate in patient/family education and make pertinent nursing assessments
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team and provide appropriate interventions
  • Work with cytotoxic and hazardous medications on a regular basis

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
  • Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as MS Windows/Word/Outlook
  • Satisfactory employment record
  • Ability to legally work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Three (3) years' experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory care settings
  • Knowledge and experience with oncology
  • Experience with electronic charting
  • Ability to speak French

Asset Qualifications:

  • Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C))
  • Knowledge and experience with wound care
  • Knowledge and experience with patients receiving radiation therapy
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Leadership

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of patient-centred care
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, prioritization, organizational, and critical thinking/problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
