Job Summary

Volker Stevin Contracting is seeking a skilled Roller Operator to join our team. As a Roller Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of rollers, including Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers, and Finish Rollers, to compact and smooth out asphalt surfaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate rollers in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with company safety protocols.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Compact and smooth out asphalt surfaces using Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers, and Finish Rollers.
  • Determine the speed and direction of the roller based on the compressibility of the material and temperature conditions.
  • Operate hand rollers and pound surfaces using hand tamp or guide portable power rollers in areas inaccessible to road rollers.
  • Operate various types of rollers, including steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, and other types, to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base, and asphalt surfaces.
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of rollers.
  • Perform other heavy equipment operations and construction-related duties as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
  • 2-3 years of experience operating Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers, and/or Finish Rollers.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, processes, and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Willingness to work out of town and in remote locations, as required.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
