The Lightspeed System Engineering team is responsible for defining the performance requirements of all RF components within the satellite communication system. As a Senior RF Systems Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Simulating and modeling communication systems.
  • Collaborating with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, User Terminal, and Landing Station engineers to delineate functions between hardware and software domains.
  • Formulating strategies for modeling RF link performance, accounting for impairments across various system elements.
  • Deriving top-level specifications for RF links and RF and antenna subsystems.
  • Characterizing and analyzing system performance while developing and maintaining performance budgets.
  • Providing technical support to regulatory, coordination, and market access teams.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline; a Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on RF/microwave circuits or communication theory is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in RF communication systems.
  • Familiarity with digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as PSK, APSK, and QAM.
  • Specific experience with modulation standards such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2, along with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) methods.
  • Proficient in MATLAB or similar tools for modeling and analyzing RF communication systems.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in analyzing and simulating communication systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of RF passive and active components.
  • Solid grasp of active antenna beamforming technologies, including digital beamforming and fast beam hopping.
  • Experience in characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies, including the effects of rain fade on communication links.
  • Knowledge of RF transceiver architectures and digital communication theory.
