Position Overview: The Lead RF Testing Engineer will be tasked with developing and maintaining system verification and validation plans for the Telesat LEO constellation communication system. The role involves participating in various testing activities across the Telesat LEO system in collaboration with vendors and partners, as well as overseeing the laboratory environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide recommendations and influence the system verification and validation processes for the Telesat LEO system.
  • Develop verification matrices for systems and subsystems in alignment with system requirements.
  • Coordinate and engage in RF and system-level testing activities, including planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Act as an RF expert, offering support to other technical personnel as needed.
  • Contribute actively to component and subsystem design and testing initiatives.
  • Configure testing equipment such as Satellite Link Emulators, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Ensure that products under test meet technical, functional, performance, and business specifications.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a functional state, ensuring it is equipped with the necessary hardware and software configurations to execute various test scenarios.
  • Collaborate with partners and vendors during different testing campaigns.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or System Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in satellite communications.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Satellite RF communication systems, with strong knowledge of modulation and coding in modern standards such as DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in RF testing within Ka bands.
  • Practical experience with RF testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and satellite channel emulators.
  • Strong grasp of RF engineering principles and design practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation, and coding, and their effects on satellite link performance.
  • Experience in satellite link budget analysis, with a solid understanding of impairment effects on link performance.
  • Familiarity with test case and defect tracking tools such as Jira and Jama.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams, and partners/suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with traffic generators like Ixia and Spirent.
  • Familiarity with MEF standards.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python.
  • Experience with BUC/LNB and various antenna technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Decision Making and Supervision:

  • In this role, the incumbent will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor Junior RF Engineers.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
