Job Summary

The Financial Reporting Officer plays a critical role in the preparation of the university's financial statements and related management and statutory reports. This position requires a high level of expertise in financial stewardship, including the preparation of financial reports, financial analysis, and planning and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements and related reports for the university, including year-end working paper files for external auditors.
  • Prepare financial reports and statutory filings, including reports for the Council of Ontario Universities and the Canadian Association of University Business Officers.
  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support budgeting and planning.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior management and the Board of Trustees.
  • Perform financial and accounting duties, including processing financial transactions and overseeing account management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and analysis.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Commerce or Business Administration, plus a professional accounting designation in good standing (e.g. CPA).
  • Several years of experience in progressively responsible positions in accounting or advisory roles, preferably in a university or large institution environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting and analysis, including accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial planning and budgeting software.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and processes, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
