Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients, demonstrating nursing expertise and clinical leadership in evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis and interventions.
  • Participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the Unit, actively engaging with patients and families to promote person-centered care and recovery-oriented approaches.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, setting priorities, assigning, and delegating tasks to support staff, and participating in interprofessional conferences.
  • Act as an advocate for patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information, promoting a safe and respectful environment for all.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research, identifying patient care issues and collecting data to inform best practices.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, and legislation and government policies related to mental health and substance use practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to promote person-centered care and work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team.
