Patient Nutrition Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role involves managing nutritional data through effective organization of tasks; directing inquiries related to dietary information to the correct channels; generating and distributing patient menu tickets; preparing tube feeding documentation; maintaining current diet lists; processing diet modifications; and managing nourishment records and meal counts.
In certain cases, assembly of patient meal trays may be required. Responsibilities also include inputting patient preference lists, dietary supplements, and nourishment details.Responding to inquiries from Registered Dietitians via phone and electronic messages is essential.
Ongoing communication with nursing staff regarding dietary needs, texture modifications, and allergy considerations is crucial; this includes printing discharge lists and assembling meal trays as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
*Completion of secondary education (minimum grade 12);
*Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition (assessed);
*Certification in Food Handling and training;
*Understanding of sanitation and safety protocols with the ability to implement these practices;
*Familiarity with dietetic medical terminology (assessed);
*Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Excel (assessed);
*Accurate typing skills (minimum 30 wpm, assessed);
*Experience with Meditech, particularly in OE Nursing and Admissions modules;
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with the public, patients, and staff at all levels;
*Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities;
*Proven commitment to confidentiality;
*Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision;
*Willingness to accept responsibilities and follow instructions, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative;
*Physical capability to perform job duties, including reaching, bending, pulling, and walking;
*Previous clerical experience in a Nutrition Services or healthcare setting is preferred;
*Familiarity with CBORD nutrition software is an asset;
*Flexibility in availability to accommodate call-in requirements for various shifts;

*Understanding and commitment to comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff and patient safety, and participation in regular training in this area;
*Demonstrated good attendance record and ability to maintain this standard.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Employment terms are governed by the Collective Agreement between the organization and the relevant union.
Successful external candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the last six months.
