Position Overview

The Hatch Art Gallery Coordinator plays a vital role in overseeing the operations and management of the Hatch Art Gallery, ensuring adherence to established policies and the AMS Permanent Collection. This position also involves leading marketing initiatives and guiding renovations, grant applications, and innovative projects.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Vice President of Administration and supervises a team of dedicated Hatch Volunteers.

Employment Details

  • Status: Hourly Exempt, Appointed
  • Term Length: Until April 30, 2025
  • Weekly Hours: 20
  • Compensation: $18.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and preserve the Permanent Art Collection of the Society.
  • Propose new acquisitions for the Permanent Collection.
  • Investigate opportunities for loaning pieces from the Permanent Art Collection.
  • Maintain the Gallery's online presence and manage the relevant web pages.
  • Organize and curate biannual exhibitions featuring the Permanent Art Collection.
  • Set and pursue short- and long-term goals to enhance the Gallery's role as a key resource for the Arts community and UBC campus.
  • Evaluate applications for student art exhibitions.
  • Schedule and curate student art shows, acting as the primary AMS contact for organizers.
  • Curate additional exhibitions that align with the Hatch Art Gallery's mission.
  • Recruit, manage, and schedule volunteers for the Art Gallery throughout the year.
  • Promote the AMS Hatch Art Gallery and its exhibitions within the campus and the broader Vancouver community.
  • Foster relationships with the Department of Art History and Visual Arts and local UBC artists.
  • Maintain office and storage areas effectively.
  • Participate in Operations Committee meetings and provide reports on activities.
  • Prepare transition documentation for successors.
  • Operate in alignment with the AMS mission statement and values.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at UBC Vancouver or an affiliated college, ideally within the Department of Art History, Visual Arts, and Theory.
  • Not eligible if serving as an executive of an AMS club, constituency, or resource group.
  • Demonstrated interest in Visual, Aural, or Performance Arts.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for engaging the public and fostering dialogue through exhibitions and programming.
  • Ability to execute installations for various exhibitions and art shows.
  • Comfortable working within an anti-oppression framework to cultivate an inclusive environment.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
