Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Industrial Light & Magic Full time

Job Overview:

Position Overview

This position is classified as Hybrid, requiring the employee to work 2-3 days at a designated Company location and occasionally from home.

The Environment Art department is a distinctive unit where artists independently create comprehensive photorealistic environments that integrate seamlessly with live-action footage, taking full responsibility for their projects.

Artists in this role exhibit exceptional skills in both digital and traditional art forms, possessing a keen eye for composition and photographic nuances. The tasks range widely from set extensions utilizing Digital Matte Painting techniques to fully realized CG environments.

The Environment Art Supervisor serves as the foundation of the environment team for the production. They engage early in the project to discuss budgeting and strategize workflows for environment creation alongside the production team and the CG supervisor. They prepare setups, templates, and asset workflows to ensure readiness when the team commences work on the project.

This Supervisor is a master in their field, overseeing their team within the production timeline and guiding them towards achieving the visual style of the project while maintaining communication with production and other involved departments. We seek a hands-on leader who can troubleshoot artist files and manage shot work as needed.

They are a role model within the department, mentoring artists to uphold the highest standards of quality in our outputs.

We are in search of a creative and technically proficient individual who embodies the innovative spirit, artistic talent, production excellence, collaborative mindset, and passion for exceptional filmmaking that characterize Industrial Light & Magic.

Collaborate with your sequence Lead to experiment with tools and techniques before implementing them for the team. Participate in budgeting sessions with Production, providing accurate and detailed estimates. Actively engage in the recruitment and staffing of the Environment Art team. Work with Talent management to guide artists' professional growth, offering performance feedback, mentorship, and fostering a positive team atmosphere. Meet regularly with your local Head of Department to discuss project progress and departmental development.
